Gap under armrest lid?

Is it normal for the armrest lid to stop about 3/4 of an inch short of being flush with the center console? There are 2 rubber stops along the top edge of the armrest that appear to be to cushion...

What do you use to clean/protect interior surfaces?

I've had my 2014 A6 Prestige for barely a month and the interior is already needing a good cleaning. What are you guys using for the various interior surfaces?
