Stock S8 suspension. 255/35-20 on 20x9 at all four corners.

There's a bunch of additional photos in My PicturPoster showing wheel clearance under a variety of conditions.

You'll be ~1/2" further outboard than this 20x9 ET39.

I don't rub at all, but another 1/2" looks like it's asking for trouble.

If "xDrive" is the same across all models, ...

The AWD becomes RWD in reverse.

A friend's house is on curve, and she needs to back her 328ix up her steep uphill driveway to avoid backing into the street when she leaves. If there's any snow on...

The stress bar in front of the master cylinder is needed.

It's standard on the S8/A8L but can be added to the A8. I don't believe it makes any difference whether the car is a pre-facelift or not.

Since my dealer has acid washed my anodized calipers ... twice ...

My Alcon calipers are no longer this color (I'm color blind, and don't know what this original color is). Both now look somewhat bleached, and one is down to bare aluminum in a few spots.

You're right about the S8 ... A8, A8L, and S8 are all different.

A8 ....... 312/245
A8L ...... 323/269
S8 ....... 345/280
My S8 .. 355/298 :-)

Car and Driver reported 3840 lb

IIRC from their original review of the '01 S8, which is what I used in this 2003 Weight Distribution Revisited post.

Re: pad selection vs brake bias

You're right; you will have too much rear bias with the same pads front and rear. Ideally you should be aiming for something like a 2.4:1 brake bias (71% front); and if you're overheating the front...

Probably saved by ESP, not AWD.

The Torsen center differential is the key to Audi's AWD, but it transfers power (actually torque) where needed so seamlessly that it's almost impossible to notice.

In contrast, activation of the...

Stay away from drilled rotors if you ever might track your car.

They're fine on the street, but under extreme heat on track, the results are often not pretty.

A8(L) is the long wheel base.

Both the A8 and S8 have the short wheel base, but it's really not that short. To me the A8L seems a bit too long, though I probably wouldn't feel that way if I owned an A8L for eight years :-)

Re: lifespan ... ???

I've never really kept track, but nothing remarkable, either short or long. They're available from RaceShopper.

The standard bias is 2:1

Stasis offers a 4:1 bias Torsen for "only" $1000, but only for manual transmission cars, and hence not the D2....
