I have not seen a cam go bad on a 3.0L. But I have replaced a ton of them on the VW 2004 to 2006 PD TDI engine. Cam usually wears away and eats up the lifters.

If the software is written correctly, you should have no problems getting threw inspection/emission testing. Readiness will set really quick. We use J-Fonz Tuning software and never had a problem...
