your gain is not a volume knob.

It's there to match voltage outputs from your source unit. Volume down the woofer on your source unit.

Interesting note = Audison was the first to use adjustable gains on their amplifiers.

Find a 5.25" separate that will give you great mid bass extension.

I am biased in this category as I work for Elettromedia, but we are known for our "out-of-this-world" mid bass response.
