I just read that the light bar in the bumper takes over for the mail taillights when they malfunction. I wonder if the shop simply didn't re-connect the main taillights.

Agree this is market forces at work. My local Audi dealer has generally has about 4 new vehicles in stock. Hard to carry a dealership when you've got nothing to sell.
