Rear fog lamps are not activated for backing up purposes. It was created in European countries so your vehicle will be more visible from the rear in times of fog and other poor weather conditions.

But I guess they took a gamble in case I would go over my warranty first until a second shop diagnoses that I really needed to fix it.
