Re: Like off an Audi 5000/100/200, pre-'92?

Re: I don't think this was octane related. It's got a fresh timing belt and the head's recently off

You should rather have sourced a branch manifold. I did this on the 5cyl 2.6 Vanagon. It made a dramatic difference to the torque and also improved gas mileage. Also better heat dissipation.

Re: Happy trails, Viv. The last van of yours we saw was decked out quite nicely for road trips.

Thanks Dave - the T3 proved to be a bit uncomfortable for my wife on our recent long tour (5000kms). It bounces badly due to no weight in the front. The T4 is heavier up front which will solve the...

Time to say goodbye..........................

Sadly I reach the end of a thirty year association with Audi which started with a new C1 in 1978.
I have today traded my Audi C4 in on a VW T4 Euro van.

I've made many friends within this forum...

This is weird.............

The American models must have different final drive specs. Our models were based on the European specs.
At 160kph/100mph our cars rev at 3800rpm.

Re: Summer heat is here= bad for starter

Corne, your starter needs new brushes. I had this problem before and the starter was smoking hot due to only two of the four brushes making contact with the commutator when the engine is hot. Try...

Re: ^^ D'oh! Ya beat me to it! ;-)

Yes it should remain steady. It may drop momentarily and return to normal when you engage a gear or turn on the aircon.

Mine started like that.............

After some months it was fluctuating 1000 rpm and stalling the engine when I engaged drive or reverse gear.
The fix is here but be careful not to scratch the plunger in the unit.

<a...
