engine shampoo? What exactly is the problem with your engine - is it leaking fluids so it's all nasty, or is the plastic that envelopes it just dusty? Modern engines don't get nasty enough anymore...

there's that stuff sold in pet stores for removing pet odors, which are pretty gnarly. I think the major brand is Nature's Miracle or somesuch. You might try repeated applications of small amounts...
