The largest contributing factor is not the car but how much of the 420hp you use. In highway driving I easily achieve 8.4l/100km (34mpg). Driving to work approx 10km from home I get 10.5l/100km (27mpg). However when you have fun it can be anything.

I also just came from an E90 M3 and am hoping to get better overall mileage. Never saw over 17.5mpg on that car and with the smallish gas tank it wasn't uncommon to be filling up every 225 miles.
That's about how many miles I get out of my C5 RS6, lol.

The last full-up got 20.3. It's possible to get decent mileage with the S6.

In a recent trip of 1850 miles, we averaged a bit over 24mpg. Syracuse-Chicago-Madison WI-Syracuse. I keep <85 with her in the car, but generally was going with the traffic flow. The same trip in the RS4 would not have been as comfy or effortless, and the straight through return leg of 918 miles would have been even more wearing.

This car was born for trips like that.

I average around 13 mpg, but this is in stop-and-go traffic and only a 1.7 mile commute to work each way.

During a recent road trip (predominantly highway) to Palm Springs, the car averaged around 22-23 mpg.

Default Setting the Adaptive Cruise Control

Indeed, that is what this car was born for. I recently did 800 miles with the adaptive cruise set to 79 and averaged 25 mpg. Works flawlessly and allows me to take the edge off road concentration. Overall I've gotten 17 mpg for 6500 miles according to the computer, which jibes with my calculations based on gas consumption.

Click the fuelly icon in my sig for details about my fuel mileage. The figures are based on actual fill-up volume as reported by the gas pump with no overfilling. The majority of the fill-ups were from the same 2 pumps at the same station.

The 'chart all fuel-ups' graph makes it obvious when I've taken highway road trips. Interestingly for the May 3-2014 fill-up I consciously tried to drive more like the average person (and that was painful lol), only really getting on the gas when pulling into traffic, and it paid off with a significant increase vs my usual 15-16 MPG. So the car is perfectly capable of pulling off its EPA rated numbers if you don't succumb to the magic of 4.0T. Car was chipped Oct 19-2013 at the APR BBQ.

The big dip on Oct 11 is after a service visit to the dealer. They managed to use up 1/2 a tank of gas in the time they had it. I suspect someone went joyriding so I checked my launch counter and it was at 5 (and I've yet to try LC yet). The problem is that was also the first time I checked so I've no proof that it happened during this service visit. I complained to the SA about it, and although they didn't deny it, he now tells me he's "kept an eye on it the whole time". I used this dealer out of convenience and will try to go the place I bought the S6 from for service now on.

How did you check your launch-control counter?
