Default VAG issuing recall - replace synthetic with dino oil in DSGs

This article states that Volkswagen-Audi is replacing the oil in all 7-speed DSGs in order to prevent electrical issues. I wonder if it affects us? Strange development, in any case.

Interesting article. I just can't figure out how gearbox oil would cause electrical malfunctions

I spoke to my dealer. So far no S6's on the recall list.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the synthetic oil may be causing insulation failures.

I'm a huge believer in the benefits of good synthetic oil. It seems to me that the correct answer to the problem (whatever it is) should be to reformulate the synthetic stock instead of replacing with an inferior dino-based lubricant.

So the real question will be, to regress to dino or ride it out with synthetic and switch if there is an electronic malfunction.
