RMP surge after stopping
#21
Still following to see what happens here.
Before a complete rebuild, start with the clutch discs. We had the transmission failure sign on our S7. We did not have the surging or 1st gear issue, but we had the shuddering and some hard slamming style shifts happening and the way it would crawl from a stop was concerning too.
Got told to do a complete trans rebuild.
After lots of research, I went after the clutch pack first. Literally solved everything in the trans department. After 6 months to ensure all ways good with the trans, went with APR TCU, so much better, so much smoother.
Just some thoughts here
I see very few with anyone solving anything with a mechatronics units and adaptation.

Mak Trans in poland rebuilds the OEM solenoids and does sell refurbished mechatronic units FYI (as well as other parts) so that is one possible good source for hard parts if you need them. Last I checked their prices on the mechatronic units was pretty decent.

After having the issues I was having with the S7 at 75K miles, I decided to go with reliability over performance and chose a Lexus LS500 F-Sport. Fun factor is definitely down, but no regrets at this point.
