Default Snub Mount Upgrade

This weekend I installed the "Pure Motorsport" Snub Mount. It was one of the cheapest of the snub mounts available (see below for available options). As I was removing the OEM snub mount I noticed how much gap there is, wow it looks like a lot... I was reminded of the 034EFI kit with updated mounting bracket that is suppose to reduce this gap and thought to myself oh well you get what you pay for... however I was still pleased with my choice but decided I wanted to reduce that gap! I measured the gap at 15mm total so about 7.5mm each top & 7.5mm bottom, side to side there's even more...almost 20mm total.

Removal and Replacement was easy, I moved the crossover tube to one side for easy access. The hard part was putting on the new snub mount... I tried and tried and tried... I used oil, then silicon, and used a hard rubber mallet... nothing (no I didn't have access to a press) and I forgot I could have popped it in the micro to soften it up... So what worked? soap and water and my hands, pop right in like nothing... go figure.

To reduce the gap just a tad I rummaged around the house, found a rubber PVC coupling joint that fit the bill... slipped it and voila!

Nice improvement in the drivetrain and shifting, I'm pleasantly pleased with it.

Here are the 4 different Snub Mounts you can chose from:

1. OEM (see Stealer) - don't do it ;-)
2. APR (see www.ecstuning.com) ~$50
3. PURE Motorsport (see www.pure-motorsport.com) ~$24
4. 034efi (see www.034efi.com) ~$20 for just the snub mount

Enjoy better shifting, and no more drivetrain slop!

Default Good solution!

I'll have to order the PureMS snubber and run by the pipe supply place for the coupler. Do think think that took out the right amount of the gap, or would you go even thicker? At some point (too little gap) you'd probably introduce noticeable vibration.

Default I think I just got lucky, it works perfect, no vibration whatsoever...

You could probably go a few mm thicker, but this worked just great for me, and the insulating layer is a tad harder than the OEM rubber, but softer than the Snub Mount so it's a perfect combo.

Default I thought they only offered the kit (with mounting bracket) at $82 seems they also...

offer just the Poly Snub Mount for $20, dunno if you can use it without their mounting bracket...ask first, I assume you can, but will have more play same as the APR or Pure MS unit.

The Pure Motorsport one was $24. Had I know I would have supported 034EFI and bought their unit.

htt p://www.034efi.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=180</a

Default For future referrence: pop it in the microwave for ~20sec and it will slip on like a warm rubber...

... something, or other... better not to go there :-P

Pure Motorsports gave really good service. Thanks for the tip, maybe it will help someone else out...
