    The 7mm hex is there to hold the strut from spinning while you wrench the nut on or off....

    If you just wrench the nut, the strut will spin with it and it will never come off. Same with putting it on.

    I have saved and reused the nuts. Thought I would not reuse them if they turn with little or no friction from the nylon. I put new ones on last time. Blau sells them in their strut hardware kit.
