Default Voltage regulator replacement question...

I read the DIY and looked at the back of my alternator on my '94. My alternator looks different than the one in the pic. Mine has a plastic cover, where the one in the pic does not. Did they change the alternator mid-year? I am wanting to do some PM and check the V/R. Plus, I don't want to order the wrong part! Thanks -Dace

Default Later Alternators had a cover over the regulator. Remove the cover, you should see this

Default You may have 120A Version Alternator.....

Anyway,Check that again.if it's 120A, the VR. to be used on has different from 110A in USA Version.See the differences on the VR. mounted bracket.HTH.

Default 110 Amp and 120 Amp alternator PNs with appropriate Voltage regulator PNs

Please confirm these with your friendly parts person.

110 Amp Bosch alternator for AAN = 054 903 015L
(This is no.11 on MG 9 SG 03 Illustration UEB)
Regulator PN is 034 903 803

120 Amp Bosch alternator for AAN = 054 903 015K
(No. 18 in the same list as above)
Regulator PN is 028 903 803D (or DX)

For later UrS6s (after VIN SN020155) the 120 Amp Bosch PN is 046 903 015F
Regulator for this one is 028 903 803E

Or so Kate told me.

Default Dave, there're many part no. on 120A...

My urS6 came up with 046 903 015F.another one from the junk came up with different part no.
Mechanic said,UrS6 also can be used 120A Alternator from C5 Chassis.I never proved that anyway,

Default Asked Kate about 046 903 015F:Used on the later AAN, AAT and AEL 5 cyl TDI and AAR 5 cyl gas

engines. The VIN breakpoint for the AAN alternator change is SN020155. Up to 155 it is 054 903 015K, after 155 it is 046 903 015F.

I've edited my post above to include this third alternator PN and its regulator PN.
