Default What is this?

A hole in the head above the #5 combustion chamber?

Default that is just a larger opening for water flow.

The extra machining in the head that follows the profile of the cylinders for water flow matches the machining in the alloy block. I was thinking that the head was a stock 3b, but it appears to by a matching sport head.

The cams were in perfect time, so I am concluding the ECU was not programmed for the obviously low compression judging by the dished cylinders which are not at all similar to standard 20V (9.3:1 CR) pistons.

There is nothing wrong with the block or head mechanically.

Default Having never opened up one of these engines...

Isn't the water jacket around the cylinders awefully shallow? I have head about grouting a block to make the cyls stiffer, but this looks like there would not be enough coolant around the combustion area to keep the temps managable.

Default

I think this block has improved water flow over a stock iron block.
