Skeptic has to eat crow on Pop's POS alternative 4A0 905 351
Earlier this week, Pop (from Thailand) was wondering (see URL below) whether the 4A0 905 351 Power Output Stage (POS) from a 92-97 wasted spark (fires two cylinders at once) V6 ignition system would work on our cars, as a substitute for our 4A0 905 315A POS units. I was skeptical having never seen one. Bar1 said it would work. Pop said it would work. SA UrS4 said it would work. I wanted more info (e.g. a picture).
Today, at lunch, I went over to VM Autohaus to see one of these brown Hitachi-made 4A0 905 315 POS units that Kris has in stock for his V6 customers. Sure enough the 315 Hitachi is very close to the 315 A Bosch. The Hitachi is slightly longer but the pins seem to be the same (I compared it two my old POSs that are still mounted on the firewall (but not being used)).
Looking at the front side, the pin lables are as follows:
E1_E2_E3 at the three pin end and
I1_I2_G_I3 at the four pin end.
I don't have my pin out info handy so I can't confirm 100% that the pin outs are the same. I will do that tonight at home and report back.
For giggles, I asked Kris to check the pricing on the 315A (our OE number) and the 315 (the V6 POS). My price (in $CDN) would be $320 for the 315 A (S4/S6) and $175 for the 315 (V6) POS.
For comparisons, the $320 315A price for the single POS is about what I spent for my entire 1.8t coil pack conversion. The $175 single 315 price is about what I paid for five 1.8 t 115L coil packs (that have built-in POSs).
Anyway, apologies to Pop (and others if required).

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/107113.phtml</a

Yes you can use the non-A suffix POS, Hueco, Beru and others make that model...
but for some reason Audi spec's the Bosch POS for the turbo cars. The S4 2.7tt is the same way 2x Bosch, versus the V6 A4 which uses a single Beru unit for wasted spark.

Dude: a) you should have responded to Pop's recent posting and b) all you did was...
test them at idle. Whoppee. You were too scared to take the car for a drive with them. What a pioneer you are.
NOT.

POS "fix"
Im sure this has been posted before since its such a simple fix but I cant say I have ever seen it posted before.
about 3 months after I got my car I had a blown POS and since the 1.8T conversion was probably just a thought in the back of UrS4boys mind that wasn't an option we looked at getting a new POS but that was way to expensive so we looked at the 315 which was half the price but still expensive and second hand so we decided to try fix the one I had.
we worked out that number 2 cylinder wasn't firing so we swapped the 2 POS's so that number 5 cylinder wasn't firing then we swapped the pins on the plugs so that the number 5 cylinder was using the empty channel on the POS. now this was supposed to be a temporary fix but I have been running like that for about 2 years.
I obviously cant swap out my coil pack with other urS4/6's but my car runs.
