Basic DIY: B6 Phatnoise w/Sat radio install
Yea yeah, a few of you know that I've been whoring myself out on this for the last few days, but figured I'd post up some info and a partial DIY.
Basically, if you bought the Audi kit, all you need extra is the mounting kit and Audi CD changer harness:
ZVW-269-300 brackets
4B0-051-735-B Audi CD audio cable
If you have the VW kit, you will need:
000-051-592-A Audi Phatnoise cable
now for the tricky part. If you have a CD changer in the glovebox, you'll need a switcher box from an Audiworld member who's name slips my mind at this time.
If you have Sat radio, here we go.
Take the CD Changer cable, and cut the shielding from end to end, leaving starting at the bare wires. After you've done that, 3 wires need to be seperated: red and white wires in a shielded wire together, and a short brown wire in its own shielded cable.
These 2 shielded cables inside the main harness need to stay with the main 13-pin plug, while the rest get reshielded and taped/shrink wrapped back together. The 13-pin connector and 2 wires you've seperated stay in the trunk, the remainders run to the back of your OEM radio.
Here's the kicker. Audi does not publish this, but from wiring schematics, there is an audio-switcher/passthrough built into the OEM Audi sat radio boxes. Thers are on connector T8s (the 8-pin connector on the farthest end away from the antenna plugs). You will notice 3 pins are unused, the passthrough.
Now, you will need 2 pigtails from Audi:
000-979-009 pigtails
These come with pins on both ends of a 9" yellow wire. You will need 3 pins, so one will be left over.
Take your new pigtails and cut off the existing connectors on the CD changer cable and splice these in. You now have a red, white and brown wire with new pins.
Pin 3 on the Sat radio connector is the white wire, Pin 4 is red, Pin 8 is brown. Simply plug them into the connector and use a punch to push them down and seat them into the new housing. Done. Using the instructions insert the pins from the CD Changer cable into the 20pin connector behind the radio, mount the Phatnoise box, and you are done. Simply press the CD button on the Nav+ or Symphony II radio, and listen to your new toy

I did this at the dealer yesterday.. I'll have to rip it apart next week for pics =P
But I pulled the carpet all the way out, and ran the cable along the driver's side under the backseat and under the door sills
running the cable took about 15min, the rest was kinda a pita to figure it out the first time.
Install time with complete instructions, which I can come up with, about 2 hours MAX.
Don, if you want, I'll get a writeup for the tech section. Just lemme know and I'll dismantle a few things for some pics

Does this disable the in dash CD changer?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but the last line says "Simply press the CD button..." and I was confused as to whether that meant the CD button is now phatbox or are there multiple levels to the CD button...like press once for CD press again for phatbox.
