Default I will agree that the M3 will take

a higher level of skill to compete. You just need to be in the powerband, otherewise you will be caught off guard.

Default Sorry, I missed that

But I see M3 is 2 seconds faster than S4 around Hockenheim. Same driver. Isn't Topgear's track an airfield witrh beacons & standing water at the hammerhead section.

A standard M3 didn't make the list. That's the CSL version.

Default Wasn't implying that the torque is what pulled it

ahead, I said "power" implying horsepower. How do you know it was "on boost"? Problem is, the lag will be different depending on the rpms, but there will still be lag. If you've ever driven a turbo car, doesn't matter how small the lag is, there always a "ramp-up" of delivery. Response is "soft" at best, this is their achilles heel.

Who knows, given the same weight and the power/torque of the two cars, and assuming hte manufacturers gear the cars appropriately, the CL really should be kicking ***. That's what leads me to question the tests (the in gears are quite short) and traction.

Default Yes, peak you have +10bhp and +7fpt over the U.S. Spec. Also, the octane of your gas may make...

...a difference. You at 98RON, I believe which is like 96 octane for us which would great but we can't get that for normal gas. Our best normal gas on the east coast is 94 and 91 here in SoCal! :-O

Default True, but down here

we seem to have faulty limiters. Have pics & GPS verified of a few M3's going was over 170mph. In fact, a local mag tested one & it ran out of power without any limiter intervening. It was clocked at 180mph. I think I have a link somewhere.

Default Here's a US mag test

M4 much faster on a proper track. What did the US mags get for slalom & skidpad for S4 vs M3?

911 vs Evo vs M3 vs S4

Default Ash, 80-180km/h

50-112mph in 5th gear. Surely the more powerful car will be quicker on such a long drag. In 5th.

Default Hockenheim & Ring times

But I think the S4's power to weight deficit will hurt it on a proper track. Not exactly a fair contest. 4WD doesn't benefit unless your opponent is losing traction.

Hockenheim & Ring times
