I have been running this 3/4 Throttle Mod on my "M" Box for over 13,000 miles now. No problems whatsoever. No codes, no hesitation, nothing. I'm very happy with it.
----------------------------------------------
First off, this is the ideal solution because:
1) There is no drilling
2) The rubber tip can be removed in the matter of seconds if you don't like it
3) It's very inexpensive
4) Doesn't mess with the electronics
Heck, it's the best mod I can think of. =)
OK, in addition to the rubber tip, it took 2 hours and a full tank of gas of testing. I wanted to make sure it worked without any flaws before I posted anything.
Here's the deal:
1) Go to Home Depot and pick up a 4-Pack of Shepherd 5/8" Rubber Tip, Model # 89125. It costs $1.60. You'll only need one.
2) Locate the accelerator pedal and find the throttle stop. See picture.
3) Cut the tip (or bottom) of the rubber piece about 2mm, make sure it is flush.
3) Now cut the rubber tip in half horizontally and install the rubber tip on the throttle stop. It will fit PERFECTLY in terms of width but you may need to trim the length.
4) Test drive your S4 to see if the 3/4 Throttle Problem is resolved. If not, you will need to continue to trim either the tip or the length of the rubber piece in small increments.
To determine if the rubber tip is at it's optimal placement:
1) In 1st gear, maintain a constant 5mph.
2) Now go WOT, pedal to the metal, if there is no delay and your S4 responds instantly, you're all set! If there is STILL a delay, you need to cut down the rubber tip some more because you're only at 50%-60% throttle.
My S4 runs well now and there is NO delay or lag when I put the pedal to the metal. If you have any questions, you know how to reach me.
I hope this helps.
