I discovered that changing pads on the stock brakes is really pretty easy. Audi designed the calipers such that they do not need to be removed for a pad change. On the back of the caliper is a hinged spring that holds the pads in. A squeeze of your pliers will allow removal of the spring and it will then just swing out of the way. This pic shows the spring out of the way and the stock brake pads still in.
