I had the pleasure of having the guys from R Style Performance in Cincinnati to come up for a custom tune on their Single turbo 2.7T S4. (Thanks to Ryan @ Dubwerx in Cincinnati for the referral). It was a pleasure meeting these guys with their project car. It came here running flawlessly and we just made a few adjustments to the o2 locations so I could get it to run as well as possible since they wanted me to tune it without a MAF, delete the EGT's and the rear o2 sensors.

First off, I have to say, my initial impression when I lifted the hood was just pure amazement. I just thought back about 5 years when we were planning our own twin GT kit and going single was a consideration but we opted for the stock location route, which I do not regret whatsoever. But after seeing this in person with their quality construction and the way it responded to just a single tuning revision, it was amazing. Boost comes on HARD with the GT3582R w/special Precision turbo comp cover (some T04 variant from what they said) and it has the 0.82 a/r exhaust side. All of the piping from the head to turbo is a thick walled 304 stainless, schedule 10, all TIG welded with centering collar type v-bands for perfect engagement and NO leaks whatsoever. I couldn't have been more impressed with a first rendition of the kit.

Here's a couple pics of the setup:

On to the tuning. I was really hesitant to do this maf-less, but it turned out perfect. I'm running a 3 bar fpr with 60's and a 255 pump. It has a Tial 44mm wastegate and it barely took any N75 duty to set it up. We ended up letting him leave on an MBC set at a low pressure so that he doesn't blow the stock motor. I'm just hoping he comes back with the motor rebuilt with rods so I can really see what we can get out of it.

I hope you guys enjoy this new perspective with the GT setup. It's a VERY successful setup that I can definitely vouch for. I'm going to try and convince Gil over here to ditch his RS6's and go this route and do a side-by-side against my twin GT setup, if I decide to rebuild my silver car w/GT's again.

Anyway, these guys from R Style Performance were about the purist guys out there in the community. It was a breathe of fresh air having them come by yesterday. It's a totally different feeling of excitement. They have no clue about any bigger turbo, tuning or Garrett turbo forum wars between tuners and forum members. They just set out to build some solid hardware and inspired me to help them to whatever extent they needed to get a quick car.

Here's some #'s from only one revision on the tune. Please note, it's just an inexpensive fmic with no other mods on the bone stock motor. Stock flywheel. No methanol. Pump gas only. Obviously a single exhaust (I can't remember the diameter, maybe ~3.5" all the way back??) If you have any more questions on this setup, drop me a line and I can get you in touch with these guys. After these results, I think this is just about the most feasible setup out there. No worries of wastegates sitting on heater core hoses, interference with inner cv shields, trans interference with the turbo, ease of change with the turbo in case you want to try something new, and servicability was phenominal. Heck, no relocation of the battery and the coolant container stayed in the same place. Not to mention, you can run a great intake setup through the lower bumper area. I don't know why their a/c was not completely in there, but they had the condenser and pump still on the car. I just don't know if they pulled off the drier for whatever reason.

Anyway guys, great job and it was a pleasure having you at the shop!!

Boost response is GREAT. Not bad for a turbo that can make around 600+chp.

Intake temps are solid

pump gas timing. Nothing special after only a revision

same goes for the correction factors...nothing special.

acceleration is just so solid with a TON of area under the curve. For getting our feet wet on this one, there's so much left in it

FATS time is awesome after barely spending any time on the tune @22psi across the board.
