Default RS4 Fuel pump install.

Just wanted to post this since I just wrote this up for someone else. I'm now Stage 2.99 until I hook up my RS4 MAF later today. By the way, my RS4 pump already had one of the pipes altered by APR to work with the S4. See here if you didn't buy your RS4 pump from APR and it isn't modded.

Make sure your tank is below 1/4 from empty. I was at about 1/3 and the top of the pump was at the fuel level so I got more fuel on my hands than I wanted. Other than putting out that stinky grit that you're smoking, all you have to do is:

1. Remove the access cover.
2. Remove the two fuel hoses on top of the blue cap. You'll have to cut the pinch clamps.
3. Unscrew the large plastic nut holding down the blue cap. Audi has a special tool, but I just used a wooden hammer handle (no head) and a hammer to knock it loose. This is very easy to do. Just place the wooden tool against one of the protrusions and hammer it a few times.
4. Lift off the blue cap.
5. Look inside and say to yourself that there is no way that pump is coming out of this hole.
6. Remove the fuel sender. There is a small tab on the side that you have to feel around for.
7. Use another special tool to turn the fuel pump loose. It's one of those 10 deg turn sort of things. I made a tool similar to this one and it worked fine after some fumbling around.
8. Be stoked.
9. Note pump orientation.
10. Lift the pump out of the hole. Amazement ensues.
11. Install new pump. I didn't need the tool for the RS4 pump. It just turned and clicked into place by hand. It was too easy and I wish it was more snug. Oh well.

When screwing the plastic nut back on, make sure you don't cross-thread it. Screw it down until there is no gap between the blue cap and the nut.

Default One thing I would change- run the tank down till it say zero miles to empty (if possible)...

It makes for much less of a mess.

Also, unhook the battery for safety- just in case you know.

Lastly the tool isn't absolutely necessary. I have changed a couple of them with nothing more than sticking my hand in there and pushing/twisting.

Default this helps alot.

Unless you like soaking your hands is fuel fiddling with the pump. Even for an inept person like me could handle the fuel pump. Of course I cheated and bought the fuel pump wrench.
