the beater will be used to get through the deficit period with the house in FL and to pay down a significant portion of our college debt.

I'm looking at an S4 to have after that period...some time mid 2009 (i'm hoping...). By then I'm hoping to most definitely be rid of our FL property, and use that 6-8 months to pay down debt and put money in the bank.

In the end, I'll have a payment not far off from what my A4 was costing me, and heck, I may even be able to end up with a well sorted Stage III S4 for the same payment...

I was looking at the option of a '05/'06 A3 but I really want to stay with a car that has quattro, especially now that we're living in snow country... But even the A3 would still end up being nearly 20k easy...

So why spend 20k for a front track A3 if I can find a sorted S4 for less? Yes, I'm sure the S4 will still have some decent operating costs...(pray that the trans doesn't go out...) but that's how it goes with any older Audi. I love the design, and having a 450HP AWD vehicle for under 20k aint bad.

I know the S4 definitely handles different than the A4, but I'd also like to be able to get into tracking for fun as well. But I'd much rather end up with an S4 like Gator Al has for track duty...

    I can dream can't I?

    =)

What direction does your Political Compass Point?

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all... The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic... There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else." Teddy Roosevelt
