thinking about getting piggies or aftermarket downpipes. currently stage 2 apr/borla. question
how much louder will the downpipes make my S? i am running apr v5 on 91 (cali) with a borla catback exhaust. I am very happy with both the sound of the borla and the overall volume of the exhuast note. agressive but not obnoxious or droney.
i am guessing i will really feel the extra high-end power with downpipes/piggies. (correct? between 30 and 50 horses extra?)
but is everyone happy with the way their car sounds after going from stage 2 to stage 2+? anyone think it sounds too droned out or "ricey" for lack of better word?
i know what most of you will say, go stage 3, well I do plan to do that but not yet, need to save up for that and my K03s are humming like new.
thanks for any feedback, especially anyone running a Borla catback too.

That is interesting. I have the same set-up as above and was considering piggies as well.
Do you feel that the loss of low-end torque is worth the extra ponies? I am APR stage 1 93 octane with the 710N, Samco TBB and N75 race valve with the Borla cat back. I think that the car runs really good with a nice low-end response. I was wanting to go with the piggies to get the extra horsepower, too much is never enough, but I dont want to lose the low-end. Can you please explain your feeling regarding this further?

It depends on the downpipe...
Piggies are the quietest because they are smallest and use the heaviest material. When I went from stock to piggie all I noticed was a louder turbo whistle but the exhaust note remained the same (this was with a Milltek 3" cat-back).
However, when I upgraded to ASP (3") downpipes the exhaust note richened. It was louder but not by very much. It was more the tone of the note that changed.
I'm told that LaBrees don't add as much sound as the larger downpipes (like ASP, AWE, Milltek) because they have the divorced wastegate (dual pipe) design.
In the end, I think the cat-back selection makes the biggest difference. Adding downpipes will richen the sound but won't make a huge difference. If you are concerned about sound with downpipes then I'd stick with piggies. Plenty of guys run those with very impressive power numbers so it's not like you need the bigger downpipes at least with K04s and below.
