Default The definitive moonroof weight thread: Official pictures and weight figures inside...

I was not able to figure out how to separate the glass from the sunroof rail, but I was able to weigh the complete sunroof assembly including the frame, glass, and motor. The entire assembly including the frame, glass, and motor weighs between 28 and 29lbs. As you can see from the photos, it was weighed two different ways.

It's clearly evident that the glass itself weighs significantly less than 30lbs. Don Istook, who has proven over the years to be a reliable source of reporting accurate data, weighed the sunroof glass @ 13lbs back in 2000. He went on to say the entire assembly was 30lbs which is consistent with my findings.

I'm pretty sure I've proven that the entire assembly weighs 30lbs and that the glass alone is obviously significantly less, most likely 13lbs.

You should contact Fiber Images and let them know about this - and probably edit your original post about the weight. You should probably edit the price too because you said you'd knock $100 off the retail price if I was right....If it's cool with you, I'll take you up on your $100 off offer and place an order for two for the CF moonroof replacements at $225 each.

Here are the pics:

^^^ This whole thing weighs only 28-29lbs - the bulk of it coming from the heavy metal frame.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2533007.phtml</a

Default Just the glass? Tilt sunroof up, remove plastic trim covering screws on each side, Remove 3 T25

screws on each side, lift out glass. Removing entire sunroof assembly involves pulling the headliner.

Default I was thinking entire assembly.

So what's left once the assembly is out?

I guess I'm curious how easily a good body person could fill in the hole.

Default Hell, Don Istook said that 6 years ago. Anyone who was anyone knew that. <Shakes head>

;-P

Of course I seem to recall someone recently trying to say it was upwards of 100 lbs. again...uhm, yeah, okay, sure it weighs as much as 2 wheels and tires, sure...
