...in a discussion forum, and personally, I think the question was perfectly relevant. I know I was interested and glad that he asked. I have tremendous respect for Don, and was rather shocked to hear about what happened to Chris' car. I'd love to hear Don's side of the story, and would respect what he had to say.
You're right - when only one side of the story gets aired, it is given a higher weight than it might deserve (I wouldn't say the community has taken it as gospel...although there *were* pictures). However, that is perfectly reasonable and it's Don's problem if he doesn't like it...he knows how to fix it. I will say this - the fact that Don gives out free, fairly detailed, advice, with supporting facts, is a great part of the reason that he is still treated with respect in this forum, in *spite* of the fact that he has never chosen to defend the strong accusations (with photographic evidence) against his work. Most people would get flamed off the forum. The fact that people still ask for his side of it indicates that people are interested in giving him the benefit of the doubt. So. There's nothing wrong with asking these questions in a public forum. It doesn't matter whether the question is asked here or in an email, Don can choose to answer, privately or publicly, if he wants to. The only problem with asking here is that others know the question has been asked - which isn't really a problem at all. Because we respect Don, we'll listen to what he says. But no amount of respect makes anyone above being questioned about their work. The fact that you would say that actually impugns Don's attitude towards customers, in effect, saying that Don thinks that customers, potential or otherwise (and anyone interested in highly modding an S4, as many of the members of this forum are, are potential customers) don't deserve straight answers. Don not answering doesn't say anything about his work. You saying that we don't deserve to ask about his work, says volumes about what you think Don's attitude towards customer service should be. And with a username like IstookJunior...it's very difficult not to feel like you're speaking for donistook.
