Did you just switch back to the stock chip, or did you switch to the stock ECU?
On another note, what is the difference between the GIAC chip stage 1 and stage 2, and what is the price difference. Their web sit is unclear on this.

Won't the only indicator is that the ECU has been pulled - but there should not be anything
in an orginal ECU that would indicate what was going on after it was pulled. If I am wrong can you please explain?

here is how they know!!! (more)
there are two ways that they can know, and only two.
1. if you have a socketed chip and you just replace the chip then opening the ecu will tell them for sure. they will also be able to tell by reason number two.
2. if you have a spare ecu and/or a socketed chip, the ecu will do a few things. any time that you disconntect the ecu or the battery the ecu stores a power loss code. also the readyness codes get reset. the way around this is to tell the service department that you disconnected your battery because you were on a trip and you didn't want the car to get stolen.
