remember, the 1.8T also benefits from more room. That shield they installed is loosely tied to the oil line, so the shield acts as a physical barrier, and the air between the shield and the line insulate the line from the heat.
I think in this case, exhaust wrap, or Von's suggestion for some crumpled aluminum (which creates air pockets) would be a better solution to insulate the line from excessive heat.
