Search around, I'm sure you'll find allot of opinions on this....but keep in mind that stock S4 and RS4 use BOTH.

I think that for German TUV standards, the metal ones produce less emissions at startup (that's why S4/RS4 has metal as precats), since they warm up FAST.....and Ceramics for most of the work.
