My last car had a leather shift **** (the rest was vinyl and fabric) and a detailer used some chemical on it that caused the leather to do the same. I assume it is from using plastic cleaner on leather.

My brother was just out looking for a car and we saw a few leather seats that looked like those - not S4's but it's all the same. One of the dealers explained that the damage was due to child safety seats sliding around.
