whats the general thought on installing dv's "upside down"?

Don't do it. If your N249 fails with the DV's installed correctly, they will still open with a
boost spike (chopping the throttle at full boost). Installing them upside down will keep full boost all the time, unless vacuum is applied to the valve. As long as the N249 is going to manifold pressure, the DV's will stay closed.

Not an issue with OEM style. There is a lip around the diaphragm that will allow boost
to lift it up even if the valve is installed with the face of the diaphragm facing the low pressure side of the intake.
