Default A weekend visitor.... the turbo lady (updated for easier reading)

Well, after 67500 miles, I finally got a visit from the turbo lady.

I started my car up Saturday evening after sitting for ~22hours. About 1/4 mile down the road, my passengers kept on asking me why my car was smoking so much. Me, not paying too much attention to the extremely massive clouds forming behind the car, assured them this was normal when the engine was cold, and it would stop after a bit.

At the stop sign on the end of the road, the cloud of smoke caught up with us; the distinctive smell of burning oil engulfed the car. The smoke was so bad that one of the neighbors called the fire department! Words can not even explain how thick the clouds of white smoke were. I must have burned off 4+ quarts of oil. Recalling previous posts regarding this sort of thing, I knew exactly what it was... A blown turbo.

A wicked smile came across my face at the thoughts of new K04's, but that quickly faded after remembering that I didn't have any extra money until spring. Yes, I do know this is the PERFECT time to upgrade, but if you don't have the finances, what can you do?

And if being stuck 100miles from home, having an un-drivable car with no dealerships open at 9pm Saturday and also somehow supposed to be at work Monday morning wasn't enough; I get the damn 24hr flu. FVCK!!

----
Today, (Monday) I woke up feeling 100% better. After a quick breakfast, the truck driver and I left Michigan to head to the Audi dealership in Indiana which is close to where I live.

At the dealership, I drop off the broken car and check out some of the Porsches on the lot. Damn I really do need a new GT3!! I finally get set up in a loaner PT Cruiser. w00t!!!

----
My passenger side turbo would make a VERY slight wining sound when it was cold, so I think it might have been the one that gave out. I received no other warnings; no CEL, no missing oil between oil changes, no smoke, and no odd noises.

My aftermarket warranty covers replacement of turbos and labor in the case of failure, so I shouldn't be stuck with the whole bill. As I said before, I know this is the perfect time for a k04 upgrade, but I can't afford it right now :-(

I will call the dealership tomorrow and remind them to replace both turbos, and see if they can sneak in a timing belt replacement, suspension (not sure what part, but it creaks way too much) and the front rear differential mount (which is shot)

If I had the financial resources, I would have gone to VAST for full stage 3. I took it to the Audi dealership because I had decent luck with them in the past, and I usually get my car "in" right away.

Any thoughts, questions, or comments?

No, I don't have any pictures/video of the smoke clouds; sorry
----------------

The main reason I went to Michigan in the first place was to check out the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Here are a few pictures from the event

I also have about 2 hours of video, but I'm not in the mood for video editing right now.

Aren't you getting a tax refund soon? Get the "mechanic" to install ko4's.

Default Keep me updated...

I might take my car to them for TB in about 10k miles. If they treat you well.

You should atleast try to talk to the mechanic and see if he can help you out on anything else.

Keep me posted.
