Default Replaced all 4 front upper control arms again and made sure steering rack bolts were tightened

down. I only check the top 2 rack bolts so I'll have to check the 3rd one soon. Still have the popping noise when backing out/turning in parking lots. The TREs are new and I removed the front swaybar and still had the pop (ruling out swaybar links). The noise is not as noticeable after I got the control arms done this morning but still there. It looked like there was wear on the upper part of the Vogtland spring. Possible for the spring to bind and pop in slow turns? I'm kind of at a loss on what to check next. I'm using the original upper spring seat and upper strut mount (72K miles), so I'm thinking of replacing those. I'm out of ideas besides that. Any suggestions?

Check to insure the bottom of one coil points toward the front, the other points toward the rear.

It doesn't make any sense but we had the same problem. Rotated the L forward & it worked

Just a thought, but maybe its a bad CV joint thats causing the popping when turning?

Default Just had mine checked out this morning.

My mechanic put the car up on the lift and had an assistant turn the wheel to replicate the noise. Seems like it's coming from the joint at the end of the lower front control arm. He seems to think the joint has failed and needs to be replaced. I just replaced the control arms less the six months ago but it the noises did start not too long after that job was done so it is a possibility. Since the control arm is a relatively cheap part compared to a steering rack or CV joint I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens.

Default Boots are worn but no tears. It only happens when there's weight transfer at slow speeds in parking

lots or backing out and cranking the wheel. It's not a constant clicking, just one or two pops when cranking the wheel, and the car shifts weight.

Default Yeah it sucks. I just installed Coilovers, UCA, LCA, TREs, and swaybar links a few months

ago. The popping started about a month after. I'm hoping to god it's not the steering rack.

Default I have the same exact noise, and I too just did all 4 uppers and also noticed a slight decrease

my obvious conclusion is that it is the lower control arms.

I see you replaced yours too , maybe they werent installed right? Torqued in too much?
