Quicky APR 91 octane road test. My old 93 octane APR was definitely too aggressive for 91 octane and
the desert heat. I got my ECM back from APR today with EMCS (awesome technology) and stock/91/93/100 programs. I have 91 octane in the car so I only tried stock and the 91 program. I noticed two major things:
1) OMG the stock programming is SO slow. Nice and smooth, but dog slow;
2) with the dashboard showing 86F-88F ambients, the 91 octane is a huge improvement over my older version 93 octane APR software. It is definitely not as fast as the old 93 on the bottom and in the mid range, but totally smooth with no "stepping" on the top of the rev range. I think that due to it finally running right, the 91 octane is faster than the old 93 above 4,500 rpms or so (of course it would not be this way if I had good gas in the car). I can say without a doubt that my old program was causing detonation and the dreaded timing pull-back that causes the "stepping" or notchy feel to the powerband. This summer is going to be better than last summer.
Can't wait to get some good gas in it and try the 93 and 100 programs. Sure hope that post about Cali getting 93 octane again was true since AZ should get it also.

I would differ. the APr 91 octane program boggles all over between 3500-4000 RPM
It's not smooth and has issues, like retarding the timing so VAG sees -6, where the ABT goes +6..
I'm still not knocking APR's 93 and 100, but the 91 is not right for "M" equipped vehicles. Period. More and more are experiencing this, yet APR can't be bothered.. Whatever! Ya these posts are not helping my friend sell his, but the truth has to be told and not hidden behind hype..
Show us some logs with REAL 91 octane donkey **** as I will agree that with 93+ octane the chip is quite smooth..

It's only what this person thought after reading this note
"ETHANOL (also know as Ethyl Alcohol or Grain Alcohol, CH3CH2OH) is a liquid produced chemically from ethylene or biologically from the fermentation of various sugars from carbohydrates found in agricultural crops and cellulosic residues from crops or wood. Used in the United States as a gasoline octane enhancer and oxygenate, it increases octane 2.5 to 3.0 numbers at 10 percent concentration. Ethanol can also be used in higher concentration (E85 - 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) in vehicles optimized for its use. "
So from 91 would move to 93? I don't know anything about this stuff
