t late in the powerband? all the fun is getting up to 120, not after that... we technically cant legally even drive in that range.

Let's think about your perspectives for a second...
Are we all building these cars just to race to the speed limit or even the 1/4 mile for that fact? If so, then we should just focus on traction, displacement, and weight...and maybe even another platform. Any more power in the lower band will just cause wheelspin. I rode in the laser widebody and there are traction issues at 70+mph when the power really comes on. How would this be manageable at any lower speeds/rpms with more power?
These cars are full interior, daily drivers that have the monstrous power on tap. They do everything well...now with extreme power. The tuning is the real magic as they are very smooth, very much daily drivers and extremely streetable.
BTW...consider the 8500rpm redline and see how much time you spend below 4k while banging gears for that 1/4 mile.
