Local Audi tech claims that it's possible to replace aux. water pump without removing IM,
by removing bi-pipes. He claimed there is enough room to do it through the front.
Did somebody try it?

You can do it, I've participated in the process.
The bi-pipes have to come off so you can remove the clamp on the water pipe on the front of the engine. You also have to remove the D/S Diverter Valve. They also help gain access to the rear of the engine where the majority of the R/I takes place.
I had never done it before, and when my aux WP blew up I had one of my top techs in the shop show me how he did it.

Yep, it's possible. Did it recently using Davenew's writeup
I also did a writeup myself. You need to have all the parts & extra clamps on hand, take your time & be careful not to break any small vac. hoses & connectors in the process.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2847487.phtml</a

Yup - but the pump comes out the back. It's really not a bad job.
I bought 90 degree needle nose pliers - fairly long - to help squeeze a clamp all the way in the back that was in a tight spot. I'd bet that was the most difficult part of the job for me. I also used davenew's write-up.
