I've had some bad luck lately...condo burned and almost took the S4 with it!
I haven't been posting much lately, mostly because I've been moving back to the US and have been busy with work. Anyway, I've had a rash of bad luck lately. Here's one of the stories. Please excuse the crappy camera phone pics. My SLR was in the burning building, I had to make do with what I had.
My company has put me up in temporary housing for a few months until my wife and I find a house. We were out looking at properties and we came home to this on Tuesday night.

<a href="http://www.cityofnovi.org/Government/PressReleasesArchive2007.asp#UnitFire">Wow, it looks like our condo is on fire!</a>
I run past the police and get to the front. I feel slightly better when I see the condo to my right is actually the one on fire. The Fire Dept. has already busted down my door and opened my garage to make sure no one was inside. I live in the downstairs and upstairs directly to the left of my garage here, #47247.

It turns out the firemen were already looking for me. They wanted to save that "awesome blue S4" before the fire got any worse. No problem, I had the keys...but since the S4 was on a boat for a month and I haven't driven it much lately, the battery was dead. I asked them if I could get in the car and have them push me. The safety coordinator gave the ok and I ran though the wall of water (They were delivering about 1500 gallons per minute from the hydrants) and jumped in the Audi. Two firemen pushed me across the street to a safe place.

Obviously the most important part is that my wife and I were safe. Now the car was taken care of. Shortly thereafter though, the fire really started to flame up.
It's a very difficult feeling sitting there and watching a fire creep closer and closer to your home and there is nothing you can do about it. The FD wouldn't let me get up there to try to save anything. Because this was a temporary residence for me, it wasn't filled with my furniture...but I still had all of my personal documents, most of my clothes, my PC with irreplaceable photos/files and my backup hard drives, my camera and gear, tools, bikes, etc etc etc. It was all stuff I didn't exactly want to burn.

Anyway, after an agonizing 3-4 hours of firefighting...the firemen put out the blaze. It fully burned out the condo directly next to me and started a few small areas of my roof on fire. I was really really lucky though. Nothing burned inside my place. The garage was flooded from the firefighters, but I didn't have all that much down there. I'm sorta bummed though as my powertools are shot, but those are replaceable. Insurance should be picking up the costs. Inside, everything smells like campfire ashes, but should come out for the most part too. As I said, my company leased the place for me so I have no responsibility in the cleanup or aftermath...I can just walk away which is a good thing.
It's a pain in the ***, but it could have been much worse. My wife and I our safe and we have a place to stay. I only got about 3 hours of sleep the night afterwards and I had meetings the next day. I just got back from a business trip in Chicago, and I'm looking forward to relaxing during the weekend and finishing up some projects. Here are the rest of the pics.

Looks like your firefighters were great too, as mine were. Was too late for me...
But I was in it, with wife, 1yr old son, 3 yr old daughter, and we were trapped for a minute. Despite losing all things material, we're the luckiest family on the planet. No funerals, no burn units. It was at 8pm; if we were asleep, the firefighters assured me we'd all be dead.
Check my pic poster for the cars out in front. Everything was a total loss, including the 98 a4. My 00 s4 is my replacement car... My norcal AW friends have been terrific support. Silver linings are everywhere! We hope to move back in in about 6 weeks into a new custom home with a 1000sqtf garage. Count your blessings.
