it's official, next S4 will be a V8. Other info from the VP of Audi NA.

Well, that's goodbye Audi for me. This is exactly what happened with Mitsubishi and
the Eclipse: they dumped the turbo 4 (1st & 2nd gen) for a N/A 6 (3rd gen). The 3g is still a nice car, but you just don't get that rush of driving a turbo. Very limited mod potential too.
Thank god the Lancer is coming...

Where do I put a deposit down for an RS6?

I can only imagine what the difference in performance will be compared to my 2.8 with more than double the hp and tq.
Looks like Audi is waking up to the wants of us here in the USA. I will keep my fingers crossed.

You crazy! Engine of same weight put out 340+ HP without mods. It dosn't get any better!
Whats the best you can do for under $5000 with the 2.7TT? Yeah you can get it up to to about 340HP.
So this is like Audi saying, "Hey guys if you want that much HP and Torque, here it is, save your money and buy Audi collection women's apparel."
I think its a great thing. And its nothing like what they did to the eclipse. In that case they took an easy to mod engine and replaced it with a slightly more powerful but much harder to mod V6 with limited potential. With the Audi, they are replacing the easy to mod, but terribly unreliable 2.7TT (although we all love that engine it has issues) and replacing it with one of the most proven V8s of all time.
Can't mod a V8? Talk to the camaro guys, the corvette guys... hell that guy who took his V8 minivan and made it into an 11 second drag monster. V8s are easy to Mod... its just not what the import community is used to, its what the rednecks are used to. Time to switch from reading Import Tuner to Musclecar mag man... its all fast, its just about where the power is coming from.
Like turbos? So does the RS6. Its making a whopping 450 HP from that same 4.2V8 that everyone is talking about. I"m sure an aftermarket kit will be available within a couple months of the new S4s release.
Have faith my good audi man! This is going to ROCK!

one problem...ITS STILL AN AUDI PRODUCT!
Biggest POS I ever owned was a Audi. Bought it brand new, by 35,000 miles, little stuff starting going wrong, by 65,000...undriveable. Nope, never again. Most of you that hang onto your cars longer than 50,000 will soon know.

Amen brother. But I say the S4 is not "easy" to mod. I used to swap the turbo in my Eclipse in about
three hours, but $7k - $10k for unsorted K04s that I cannot put in myself does not equal "easily modded" in my book. A 360 hp V8 at the same weight - WITH ROOM FOR BIGGER WHEELS AND TIRES (get that subtle hint Audi?) is a no brainer. With Audi interiors and build quality, it would put the hurt on BMW and with a stick shift put the hurt on Mercedes.

It's much much harder to mod a N/A engine compared to a turbo unit. Trust me,
I do know something about these things. Yes, you can mod a N/A engine, but you simply can't get the same large increases in performance with just bolt-on parts. Yes, just about anything is possible with any engine configuration, it's just a question of how easy and cheap it is to do it. The advantage of a mod being easy is you can do it yourself, like I've done with all the mods on my Talon (exhaust, intake, turbo, etc). You get to know and love a car this way, much more satisfying than just handing it over to some aftermarket place to do it for you. The S4 setup isn't as easy to work with as a 4g63 but it's still a great engine with lot's of potential.
By the way, saying the 2.7 is "terribly unreliable" is just bull****. It sounds like you'd be happier with a N/A setup (like the guy yesterday who said he was paranoid about the S4 turbos).
