Progressive and GEICO are pretty good for younger drivers but once you're 25, get a real company.

Default GEICO has decent rates, but they won't get my business.

A couple years back, one of the columnists in Car and Driver wrote about how GEICO does business. Two of the things that really irked me was how GEICO donates radar/laser detectors to Police departments across the nation, and when they somehow managed to find out that one of their insured owned a radar detector--they promptly canceled his coverage.

Default I pay $800/year with Mercury! Don't ask how.

I'm 25, an engineer, flawless record, garaged car, and $1000 deductable. My mouth dropped to the floor when I learned I would get that rate, but no arguments from my side!

I'm in San Diego, CA and used an Insurance Agency based in LA. Email me if you would like specifics b/c I have never seen anyone with rates lower than mine for WHATEVER reason.

Good luck.

Default They're not the only ones that do that

That being dontaing radar equipment (I assume you mean equipment not detector) to police departments. Many large insurance companies do that. As for canceling a policy because of the ownership of a radar detector, I never heard that. Not sure if that's even legal, but insurance laws vary by state.

State Farm will not get my business because they said my car is an A4 and that the S4 does not exist. This was a few years ago. I'm thinking I should get insurance through my previous employer, but I've never caused (knock on wood) an accident. So they'd just be making money off of me. If I were a bad insurance risk, then I'd go with them.
