Help me decide 235/40/18 or 255/35/18 all-season tires
These are for my new 18 X 8.5" ET+38 B7 RS4 reps.
here's my thinking: i'm gonna have to roll the fenders and/or liners regardless of which of these two sizes I go with, correct? (Stasis Streets/Koni @ 25.5" all around).
the 235/40s are a couple pounds lighter each (according to the Intraweb) than the 255/35s, and may require *less* rolling (true?)...
but the 255/35s offer more grip in the dry (97% of driving), offer more rim protection, and really fill up the 8.5" wide wheels nicely.
I would go for some 245/35/18s but they don't make them in all-seasons, and I need A/S for the snowy mountains several times a winter.
And 225/40s are just to wimpy and thin.
Thanks guys, i've STFA, researched, cross-researched, and I'm turning to you guys for your opinions.
Pics to come!

My biggest issue w/ all seasons, is once the tread is 1/2 gone, your snow performance is worthless.
Spend $350 for a set of AVUS wheels and $400 for some cheapo snow tires. Or just rent an SUV for the snow weekends.
You'll get better performance for your 97% of your driving time and better snow performance for the other 3%. You can swap wheels in under 30 mintues.
The overall cost will be the same at worst since you'll have to buy new all seasons more often and at most will get 2 winters out of them. IMO, all seasons are at best OK in all conditions.

I've run both sizes. I currently run 235/40-18 Avon Tech 550 A/S and love them.
I had 255/35-18 on before. Either size will rub without rolling. My current tires, the Avons, run a bit wide. They are almost the width of my old 255's. I ran them in 17's last winter on my stock avus wheels. I was so impressed in the snow, ice, wet, and dry...that I put them on my 18's for year round duty. I plan on putting new Avons(or other top rated all-seasons) every November. That way, I have the best tread for the winter months. I really haven't found them to be a compromise at all on the street. Just don't track the car with all-seasons. Great tires!!

255's! I have run 225/45/17's, 235/40/18's, and 255/35/18's all-seasons on my S4. Current is 255's,
going on 3rd winter. I like the 255's the best for 8.5" rims.
