Flush tip tranny fluid & replace tranny filter & gasket or not? Need advice
I have a 2001.5 B5 S4 Avant w/ 81k miles. Going to do 80k mile service this week. Tip tranny is functioning fine, no issues. As part of the 80k mile maintenance work, should I flush tranny fluid & replace filter & gasket or just leave it be as is? Most of my experience is w/ BMW auto-boxes which I know are to be left alone.
Same w/ B5 S4 tip tranny? Or should I service the tip as described? Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Mike

2nd - you will hear "lifetime fluid.....blah blah". No. do full service
Then sacrifice something near and dear to you, in the hopes it doesn't fail in the next 100K anyway.
Or get a VAST/517 rebuild including torque converter, valve body, and research the clutch pack burnout issue skydive noted.
Me? Previous owner hung transmission up on a railroad track, and thrashed everything in it right before I purchased.
I'll revisit the transmission when it's fried. I don't run heavy boost over 30 seconds a week, so I have a while.

Thanks to all for the feedback - I was leaning towards doing it anyway,
not a big believer in "lifetime" fluids/filters, yada, yada - to me it's like the "free maintenance" BMW, Audi and other car mfgr's are offering on their new cars (= no maintenance). Only exception is w/ BMW slushboxes, where even my trusted indy mech tells me not to service my E36 tranny until or unless it craps out (hopefully won't happen).
I'm not hard on the S4 (probably most "babied" of any car I've owned), so I hope not to have any serious tranny issues during my stewardship. Thx again.
