I got some Elf 5W40 Synthetic oil and this Thursday I put it in... after about 5K miles on Castrol European forumal from dealership.

The car runs a bit smoother (I think)... and definately is the right speced oil.

However, this oil seems to get hot quite easily! I got it very easily to 120 deg Celsius (248 F) -right in the middle of the range. This was in a cool day, driving between a few HWY exits, driving between 50-90 MPH.

Dealer Castrol 5W40, rarely got to the mid-range, and only exceeded it while tracking the car hard!

So, I am not sure if this Elf is just not as good for track, or maybe it's too soon to tell?! I am thinking of maybe adding some good quality 10W50 oil to see if that helps or not...

Anyone else using Elf? any similar experience?

I've used the Elf Excilium and it was fine. I had no issues.

Did u ever notice warmer oil temps compared to other oils?

Never here. I've had one or two oil changes on Mobil 1, but only use Excellium LDX 5W40 now.

However, it would also come down in temp quite faster.

So, the oil gets hotter and cooler faster. Is that a good or a bad thing?
