Since this might bump up to the top in VB, let's see if it works!
I moved to Korea for the summer, then the cold set in around Boston, keeping the noise at bay. Recently, it came back, stronger than ever. Turns out it was a bad tie rod end. Fixed. Winner is hans j.

Guess it pays to look at these cars all day long. Funny thing is if you had done the rack, it would have gone away still because it is likely you would do new ends regardless.
