can anyone tell me more about the "plastic cups"( the mechanic phrased it )that link axel to tranny?

Default Thats what I thougt, but i think he was talking about the other side? I know nothing about driveline

but it seemed he was blaming a defective axel (it was replaced a week ago)

there are CV joints and boots on both ends of each axle.

Default cv meaning continuous velocity? can the tranny get damaged if the inner joint fails?

there was some harsh clicking as a result, and while my buddy was driving behind me to the shop he noticed a piece of flat black plastic fly out from under the car.

Default tranny is fine. just replace the axle - raxles for a rebuilt = cheap and it comes

w/ both CVs + boots + pregreased w/ amsoil = ready to install.

Default I'm not sure about the "plastic" portion, but I think he is referring to the CV joint's internals.
