B5 S4 Tiptronic problems!!!
Hey guys well today I was driving home I have a 2002 s4 tiptronic and my transmission was slipping so I pulled over and turned it off then turned it back on and it wouldn't go anywhere. I put in reverse and it had reverse but when I shifted to drive it would kick and lock into gear but not go anywhere. I tried 2nd 3rd etc and none of them worked. When I tried to pull out it sounded as if the tranny pump was whining but the car wouldn't go anywhere!? ... I was just wondering if it could be because of the fluid or does this mean I need a new transmission because if I need a new one im swapping to a manual these auto trannys are garbage. I don't understand why audi would put the same transmission in the s4 as they have in the a4 it boggles my mind!? Well anyway I hope someone can help me out because I haven't had any luck with this car at all but I love the thing to death and would never get rid of it. Thanks fellas

It sounds like the fluid pump may have failed in the car but its not enough information to tell. You would really have to get the car scanned and see what kind of codes come up with the TCU and all as well. it could be a variety of things.
The trannies themselves are not garbage and ZF makes them for a variety of other cars almost identical in manufacture to this one. The torque converters are a bit week and have a seal issue but there is an updated part for that.
I know you said you want to go to a manual which is a viable option. I generally sell the 6 speed swaps for about 1200-1500 depending on parts you need. Since your an s4 already you need a few less parts.
I do however have a great condition no code no issue auto tranny from an 01 s4 for sale. Its 400 picked up or plus actual shipping via fedex freight (I get great rates). It would by far be your cheapest and easiest option.
PM me if interested

Ever change the fluid? Its not really lifetime fluid and I usually see the pump blow apart and dump all the fluid out from never changing the atf. They are actually good transmissions and the EMP code transmission in yours is beefed up for the 2.7T.
