2000 s4 broken timing belt

Ugh. Replace bent valves and possibly damaged pistons. Lots of $$$$. You'd better be getting it crazy cheap. While you're having it done, replace the rods too with something stronger on the chance you'll put in big turbos later on.

If you still have to have it, call an Audi dealer and an independent and get quotes on fixing it. Price the car according to its condition using kbb, edmunds and NADA and subtract the cost of fixing it from the fair value.

That's almost right. I am about to pick up a 2000 S4 and had the owner run a pre-sale inspection at the Audi dealer in Rockville MD. They quoted ~$2.6k for a timing belt replacement, but I got quoted about $1,300 from a local VW/Audi shop in N.Va just as an example. Not sure if the Audi dealer network is crazy, but they also quoted $4,400 to replace the engine mounts?????? Had the same local shop quote both motor mount replacement with OE parts .. under $700. Not sure if I would take my car to an Audi dealer unless I knew the techs and got their prices on things?

I'm looking for someone with a 2.7T that either has been putting off their timing belt job, or has done one that wouldn't mind putting our heads together to make sure we don't leave anything out. Anybody in the frederick MD vicinity that could loan a little time to my project - I'd really appreciate it. Mine is a 2000 S4 Tip - Belt broke this morning - Didn't hear anything that sounded bad other than a flapping belt before it stopped running. Hoping for the best - prepared for the worst.
Anyway, I'm going to tear it down this afternoon... Looking for clues. I know there was a good write-up for doing this job. Cant seem to find it in my frazzled state.

A junk yard S4 is where you should look for a replacement engine. Much cheaper and easier.
