How come you chose to mount them like that rather than IB mounted in the rear deck with no enclosure?

I thought about doing a free air rear deck install, but I didnt to make cuts in the rear deck. Wouldn't you also end up with alot more rear deck harmonic resonant motion being the moving mass is directly attached to the deck?

I know my rear deck moves upwards of an inch under heavy bass after adding mass and a ratchet strap to try damper it.

I've never looked at the makeup of our rear deck, but I do know that there are a ton of people running infinite baffle sub setups with them mounted in stock rear decks on all types of cars. If I were to do it I'd probably brace it underneath with an MDF frame on the backside or something to sturdy it up. The whole point of an IB setup is to separate the back wave from the front with an enclosure that's so big, it's effectively non-existent. If you mount them in the rear deck then you take practically zero space in your trunk, but you have to modify your rear deck and possibly have them visible. His way is unique, does the same thing with less worries of a floppy mounting surface, and hides them from the cabin. Interesting idea, I've never seen anything similar

I wanted to make a box to help with making a better seal. The rear deck is full of holes.

Oh, and I figure wood sealed with neoprene would have a better sound than clamping it to metal.

I did think of just making a wood platform to mount up to the deck, but I didn't want to look at the backs of speakers every time I opened my trunk.

I liked this aesthetically. Also, I made this from some scraps I had in the garage.

This project stemmed from: I have all this decent wood around left over from a household project, do I throw it away or do something else with it.

Avant sub is located on driver side where the cd changer would go (behind rear fender)
