Default UK: Oil level

My oil was due for a change, the level on the MMI menu showed a quarter full, I have just changed the oil and I got out 7.5 litres, I then put back in 7.5 litres as recommended and now the level shows full, why would it be different? It makes me think it’s more of a quality of oil gauge more than a level. Also I have never had an ‘oil OK’ message on the dash at start up but when I started the car after changing the oil I got an ‘oil OK’ message, how does it know Iv changed it 😂 I then started it again and no message 🤷🏻‍♂️. One more thing, I thought the oil extraction pump method was stupid, now Iv done it I love it, never going under a car to do the oil again.

The car needs to be driven some distance, maybe 100 miles, before that oil level indication is good.

I suspect all is OK unless you've over-filled it. Be patient, and welcome aboard !
