S4 8-speed question

There is now a new 8 spd DSG. The ZF8 spd is not the same on the S4 as the prior A6 (i've had both) the prior A6/7 was the ZF8HP45 - the new S4 is the ZF8HP55a... Launch control is available on both.

Not aware of any other, but then I don't know what transmission is being used in the new A6/A7/A8 PHEV models currently on display at the Geneva show. But they have an electric motor at the end of the transmission (must use quattro Ultra), and are dual clutch transmissions. If there is something else, let us know.
The C7 A6 and A7 were using the ZF8HP55A everywhere other than, apparently, North America. But only with the high output 3.0TDI variants. The 3.0TFSI models used the DL501-7Q S tronic, except in North America, where IIRC there was a belief that most owners (and journalists) prefer the smoother low speed behaviour of a torque converter transmission. Seems a little strange to me that they would have used a 45 rather than just use the 55 - perhaps they had been using the 45 with the D4 A8 3.0TFSI, which was made globally with the ZF8HP?
But as has already been said, there are many differences in specific applications of the ZF8HP, not just within the torque rating identifier (45=450Nm, 55=550Nm), but also within those groups depending on the drive train being used. They are custom developed by ZF and the manufacturers' engineers, who work together at the development stage. There seems to be an enduring belief in this thread that the ZF8HP is some generic part you buy over the counter at an auto parts shop. It isn't.
