Default pre sense is just aweful

The pre sense braking system is just horrific.
I caused the car pulling out of a spot to violently chomp on the brakes and I spilled a coffee all over my new Canali suit.

i mean WTF!! turned it off.

ok rant over.

Lesson learned to not drink coffee in the car (that's why my wife isn't allowed to drive mine LOL).

It's the worst feature of this car. The problem is it will come back on when you start the car again.

I would rather have a safety net than not have one. I've had it in my B9 A4 and now the S4 and I've never noticed it going off when it should not have. Are you talking about the cross traffic alert and braking when backing out of a spot or the frontal collision warning / autobrake?

Out of curiosity, was it a false alarm or did you attempt to pull out of your parking spot with one of your hands occupied holding your coffee and not paying enough attention while another car drove past your spot that you could have crashed into? Either way, I would say your hands belong on the steering wheel while making such a maneuver and the coffee goes in the cup holder, and pay attention to your surroundings. Just a bit of a rant on my end, because just this week I had to swerve around two separate cars pulling out of their parking spot w/o a care in the world while I was passing on the road behind them. The second one I only caught in the corner of my eye and I had to swerve into the adjacent lane to avoid being hit. This is the kind of people this system was made for. I'm aware there are reports of it being a bit too sensitive sometimes, and even having false positives, but I wish every car had this system so I don't have to swerve every time somebody isn't looking. Coincidentally, I witnessed the system working on a Q5 in a parking lot last week. This lady was starting to pull out w/o looking properly, while a car was just crossing behind her and the Q5 stopped on a dime. The lady visibly shaken up and I hope she learned her lesson and is thankful the system saved her from an accident.

Mine has only gone off 2 times in 14k miles and both times it was valid. Once was in stop and go traffic and I was looking down for a second and the other was backing out of a parking spot and a car was flying thru the lot but the pre sense saw him coming.

I've had at least one that I understood but was not happy with - I went to make a left turn close on the heels of an oncoming car making a right turn. The car registered that we were approaching one another rapidly and slammed on the brakes. In truth there was no danger because we were both also turning and, if it had been able to project forward in time, it would have seen we weren't going to hit. The activation was bad both because of the shock and because it slowed me down clearing the intersection, which is not what you want when turning left.

Fortunately, this forum warned me that sort of thing could happen before I ever bought the car, and I knew to override it by stomping the gas, so it was not a major problem. I wouldn't permanently disable the system as it currently works, but I think there's a lot of room for improvement.

This morning I was driving to work and Presense activated and started braking but gently and not hard. The car in front of me was not slowing down and started pulling away from me. I was wondering what was going on when the car in front of me suddenly slammed on his brakes because there was a pedestrian in the crosswalk ahead of us.
